§ 66-11. Emergency telephone line (911) abuse.

  • (a)

    Definitions. The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this section, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this subsection, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Emergency means when a person reasonably believes that immediate response by public safety personnel is essential due to the risk or actual occurrence of:

    (1)

    Death or great bodily harm.

    (2)

    Property damage.

    (3)

    Any other situation which reasonably requires the immediate response of public safety personnel.

    (b)

    Prohibited use of 911. No person shall use the E 911 emergency telephone number system for any purpose other than to report an emergency.

    (c)

    False reports. No person shall report an emergency knowing in fact that the situation which he reports does not exist.

    (d)

    Violation of section by minor; parental responsibility. No parent, guardian or other adult person having the care and custody of a person under the age of 18 years shall permit or, by insufficient control, allow such persons to violate the provisions of this section.
