§ 74-3. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Garbage means putrescible animal and vegetable wastes resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food.

    Recyclable materials means material waste for which there exists a commercially demonstrated processing or manufacturing technology which uses the material as a raw material.

    Rubbish means useless solid wastes (excluding body wastes) consisting of both combustible and noncombustible wastes, such as paper, cardboard, tin cans, yard clippings, wood, glass, bedding, crockery and similar materials all of which shall be of a size to fit in a standard garbage can or bag as approved by the collector and certain large items weighing less than 350 pounds as specified in the village contract with the collector.

    Shall means mandatory and not merely directory.
