§ 82-8. [Crossing guards and traffic control attendants.]

  • (a)

    Crossing guards. Pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 349.215, and any amendments or modifications thereto, the police chief, or a designee of the police chief, is hereby authorized to appoint adult crossing guards for the protection of persons who are crossing a highway in the vicinity of a school. The police chief, or the police chief's designee, may provide training for adult crossing guards. Crossing guards shall wear insignia or uniforms which designate them as crossing guards and shall be equipped with signals or signs to direct traffic to stop.

    (b)

    Traffic control attendants. Pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 349.217, and any amendments or modifications thereto, the police chief, or the police chief's designee, is hereby authorized to appoint traffic control attendants for the protection of persons crossing highways at special events within the municipality. All traffic control attendant appointments must be made in writing specifying the date, time, and location for which the appointment is valid, and all traffic control attendants shall receive training in traffic control and traffic safety. Traffic control attendants shall wear insignia or uniforms which designate them as traffic control attendants and shall be equipped with signals or signs to direct traffic to stop.

    (c)

    Event regulation. Pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 349.185, and any amendments or modifications thereto, the director of public works, or the designee of the director of public works, is hereby authorized to regulate vehicular and pedestrian traffic at special events, celebrations, processions or assemblages on the highways within the village.

    (d)

    State law adopted. Except as otherwise specifically provided in this chapter, the statutory provisions in Wis. Stats. ch. 349, describing and defining regulations with respect to vehicles and traffic, exclusive of any regulations for which the statutory penalty is a fine or term of imprisonment, are adopted and by reference made a part of this chapter as if fully set forth in this section. Any act required to be performed or prohibited by any regulation incorporated in this section by reference is required or prohibited by this chapter. Any future amendments, revisions or modifications of the statutory regulations in Wis. Stats. ch. 349 incorporated in this section are intended to be made part of this chapter in order to secure the extent legally practicable uniform statewide regulation of vehicle traffic on the highways, streets and alleys of the state.
